Bringing the all too familiar, in a not so familiar way!
15 MINUTES on Plex.TV
Inmates are given just 15 precious minutes to hear the voices of their loved ones — to connect, to hold onto a fleeting moment of normalcy. This is the story of one of those phone calls.
WATER TRAIL Trailer
Our humanitarian efforts after the Flint Water Crisis and in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, exemplify our commitment to addressing pressing societal issues. These initiatives demonstrate our belief in the power of art to not only entertain but also to engage, educate, and foster a compassionate and empathetic world.

Behind the Scenes
Behind the scenes of the 15 MINUTES prison shoot was an intense experience, mirroring the raw emotion we aimed to capture on camera. We had to create a space that felt both claustrophobic and deeply personal, like each phone call was the only thing tethering the inmate to the outside world.

Hard on the Yard, Real in the Field!
From the standpoint of Broken Pencil Pictures, we are a dynamic and multi-disciplinary creative studio proudly rooted in Flint, Michigan, a place known for its resilience and the need for creative expression. With an office in Traverse City, Our mission is to harness the power of filmmaking to passionately express our thoughts and emotions to the world. However, our story extends beyond the art we create; it's about the impact we make in society.
Our achievements are a testament to our dedication to social change and the betterment of our community. "The Sister Tour" stands out as an initiative through which we distributed over 20,000 gallons of water in just 56 days, addressing a crucial need in a city struggling with water crises. This endeavor is not only a humanitarian act but a reflection of our commitment to making a positive impact, similar to the transformative processes within the Department of Corrections.
Our works allow us to amplify voices and share stories that often go unheard. We believe in empowering individuals and providing them with a platform for self-expression, a principle that mirrors the goals of rehabilitation and reintegration within the correctional system.
Broken Pencil Pictures, from our standpoint, is about pushing the boundaries of art, advocating for social change, and contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and empathetic world. We recognize the potential of creativity as a force for transformation, just as the Department of Corrections aims to transform individuals to become better versions of themselves. Our work is a testament to the profound impact that art can have on society, transcending the confines of any one medium or institution and paving the way for a brighter, more compassionate future.
